Technical details
Mechanical tabletop clock with LED night light
The Tempus Machina is a tabletop clock built from solid black walnut, alloy, and glass. Its exposed quartz-mechanical movement sits under a glass dome cover, combining accurate timekeeping with a classic mechanical look. A built-in LED night light activates in low ambient light or on voice command, glows for 50 seconds, then shuts off automatically. The hourly chime can be switched off entirely. No assembly required. Ships free across the US. If you enjoy exploring the different types of clocks before choosing, this hybrid movement sits in a category of its own.
The benefit
A desk clock that earns a second look
Most clocks tell the time and nothing else. The Tempus Machina does that too, but it also changes how a room feels. The exposed mechanical movement under its glass dome turns an ordinary glance at the time into a quiet moment of appreciation. Add the soft LED glow that appears when the lights go low, and you have a piece that works harder than any clock you have owned before. For ideas on how to place a statement clock in your space, it is worth a read before you decide where this one lives.
Craft and materials
Solid walnut, alloy, and glass: built to age well
The base is solid black walnut, a wood that deepens in character over the years rather than fading. The body is alloy, the dome is glass. These are three materials chosen because they hold up and look better with time. The quartz drive powers the mechanical movement display, so you get the classic look of moving parts with the accuracy you actually need day to day. Nothing here is decorative plastic pretending to be something else.
In use
Night falls, the warm glow appears
You are reading in bed, the overhead light is off. The room dims, and the Tempus Machina's LED responds on its own, casting a soft warm light for 50 seconds before quietly fading out. No fumbling for a switch. You can also trigger it with a voice command if you prefer. The hourly chime is there if you want it, gone if you do not. The clock fits into your routine instead of interrupting it.
Everyday proof
Three rooms, one clock, zero complaints
On a home office desk it reads as intentional, not cluttered. On a living room console it holds its own next to books and plants. On a nightstand it earns its place the first time the LED glows in the dark. The chime-off option means no disrupted sleep. The voice-activated light means no reaching across a dark room. These are small things that add up to a clock you stop noticing as a utility item and start noticing as part of the room.
What you receive
Ready to place, nothing to build
The Tempus Machina arrives fully assembled. No tools, no instruction booklet to decode, no parts to lose. Take it out of the box, find its spot, and it is done. It ships free across the US. The clock includes its solid black walnut base, alloy body, glass dome cover, and built-in LED night light, all set up and ready to go from the first moment you set it down.
FAQ
Your questions answered
Does the LED night light turn on automatically, or do I have to activate it manually?
Both options are available. The LED activates on its own when it detects low ambient light, or you can trigger it with a voice command. Either way, it glows for 50 seconds and then shuts off automatically to save battery.
Can I turn off the hourly chime?
Yes. The hourly chime can be switched off entirely, giving you full control over the atmosphere the clock creates. This makes it suitable for a bedroom or any room where you want quiet.
What materials is the Tempus Machina made from?
The base is solid black walnut, the body is alloy, and the dome is glass. These three materials were chosen because they age well and suit a wide range of interior styles, from minimalist to more layered, collected-over-time looks.
Is the movement accurate, or is it purely decorative?
It is accurate. A quartz drive powers the mechanical movement display, so the visible moving parts are backed by precise quartz timekeeping. You get the classic mechanical aesthetic without sacrificing accuracy.
Do I need to assemble anything when it arrives?
No assembly is required. The Tempus Machina arrives fully assembled. Take it out of the box, place it where you want it, and it is ready to use. It also ships free across the US.
